Praecido takes out 2012 Parramatta Cup – Rosehill Race 4

Praecido winning the 2012 Parramatta Cup at Rosehill

Glyn Schofield has produced a sensational ride to take victory with Praecido in the 2012 Parramatta Cup at Rosehill Gardens today.

In the 2000 metre Listed event, Schofield held Praecido back nicely, following Hugh Bowman’s run on Stand to Gain before pushing down the outside on the final straight.

The market mover on ended up starting the race as a $3.90 favourite, and beat Jimmy Fortunes and Maules Creek to take top billings in the $100,000 event.

Ridden by experienced jockey Corey Brown, Jimmy Fortunes stormed home down the outside but left his run a little too late with New Zealand horse Praecido scoring victory by half a length.

Leading up to the race, Praecido had just one win from 27 trips to the track, making today’s victory by far the most impressive race of the four-year-old’s career.

Sharp Princess set the pace early in the stayer’s race and worked hard to lead the way for most of the race, before running out of puff at the back end to finish fourth.

There was plenty of talk about Sienna Red in the lead up to the race but the Joseph Pride trained horse showed that 2000 metres in the wet was too much, finishing a disappointing fifth.

Next up at Rosehill Gardens today is the main race, the 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes. The $200,000 Group 2 event is scheduled to jump at 3:40pm (AEDT).
