Pierro Wins Silver Slipper Stakes 2012 On Way To Golden Slipper Run

Pierro has won the Silver Slipper on the way to the 2012 Golden Slipper

Pierro has defied a late betting drift to win the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse today March 3, 2012.

Despite opening as favourite for the 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes, Pierro drifted out to odds of $4.60 at bookmaker.com.au.

The two-year-old colt proved himself to be a winning chance for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes on April 7, 2012.

Pierro has now won both of his career starts, with his first being in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate at Randwick on October 1, 2011.

The Lonhro colt is trained by Gai Waterhouse, who had been full of praise for the talented juvenile coming into today’s race.

Waterhouse told anyone who would listen of Pierro’s superior talent in the days leading up to the 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes.

”I’m very happy with the horse,” Waterhouse said yesterday.

”He has grown a bit, he is very big, very strong, masculine.”

Pierro appeared to have a fair bit of weight on his body in the parade ring, so all signs point to the fact he will improve even further as this preparation progresses.

The colt will now likely challenge Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready for 2012 Golden Slipper Stakes favouritism at bookmaker.com.au.
