PFD Food Services Stakes 2012 – Raspberries Wins

Raspberries has produced a stellar run to take victory in the 2012 PFD Food Services Stakes at Flemington today.

Despite carrying 3.5kg more than pre-race favourite Golden Penny, Rasberries looked solid all way as the mare sat towards the front for the majority of the 1400 metre race.

Paying a healthy $13.00 at, the four-year-old looked at home on the slow (7) track, finishing ahead of Biancon Rose and Booklet in the race more commonly known as the Frances Tressady Stakes.

The Peter Snowden trained horse now has six wins from 15 outings and Snowden was singing her praises after the race.

“It was a really good job, she’s a really good horse, really competitive” he said.

“She’s been on top, she’s been so honest all her life.”

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy was also full of praise for the mare.

“She’s a pleasure to be around, I really enjoy riding her and Pete and the team enjoy training her,” he said.

It was a disappointing day for the favourite Golden Penny who was coming off three consecutive victories.

The Richard Jolly trained horse never really looked in contention and despite having champion jockey Damien Oliver at the reigns, the mare finished sluggishly as she came home in last place.
