Hobartsville Stakes 2012 Won By Wild And Proud On Protest

Manawanui and Wild And Proud hit the line in the Hobartsville Stakes at Rosehill Gardens

A protest has decided the 2012 Hobartville Stakes results at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse today, with Wild And Proud taking the final prize.

Manawanui originally won the 2012 Hobartville Stakes by a nose ahead of Wild and Proud, however, a protest was soon lodged by Wild And Proud’s jockey Nash Rawiller.

Moment Of Change held on for third placing, while Hot Snitzel passed the post in fourth position.

It was the third win from just eight starts for Wild And Proud, who has now earned more than $200,000 in prize money.

Wild And Proud is trained at Randwick by Gai Waterhouse and took out his first Group title in today’s Hobartville Stakes upset.

Trainer Ron Leemon thought he had won the race with Manawanui after the race was run.

“He needed that one,” Leemon said.

“There’s further improvement to come.

“He’s done well coming here.

“At one stage I thought he was going to get half a length clear.

“I’ll say he’ll drop in weight a fair bit after today.”

The Oratorio gelding will now go to the Group 1 Randwick Guineas on Saturday March 17, 2012, despite the protest result.

“We’ll go to the Randwick Guineas,” Leemon said.
