Parramatta Cup 2012 – Betting Update and Tips

The weather has blown open what was already set to be a tight contest in tomorrow’s 2012 Parramatta Cup at Rosehill Gardens.

Following plenty of rain in Sydney this week, the track is likely to be rated as either slow of heavy and not one of the top three favourites in the 2000 metre Listed has experienced success in the wet.

Maules Creek ($5.00), King Lionheart ($6.00) and Praecido ($6.00) are the three shortest with the bookmakers but the weather has certainly opened up the field.

One horse Races.com.au likes the look of is Gai Waterhouse trained New Zealand gelding Kontiki Park.

The six-year-old provides some nice value at $8.00, especially considering he has recorded two wet track victories.

Despite a seventh placing in the Australia Day Cup last start, Kontiki Park has not been short of recent success, winning his two previous races.

At $10.00, Irish gelding Stand to Gain is well worth a look given the conditions with the Chris Waller trained horse having recorded all three of his victories on wet tracks. This includes a win in last year’s Group 1 Sydney Cup ahead of a quality field.

Of course you can not rule any of the top three out especially Maules Creek who has three wins from nine starts and ran second last weekend in the North Ryde RSL Club at Rosehill.

Praecido, while not managing a wet track victory to date, finished second in his last start on the wet stuff in the Rosehill Gardens Handicap in early February.

Other horses included in the 2012 Parramatta Cup are Rainbow Styling ($7.00), Sienna Red ($11.00), Hardbreak Hotel ($11.00), Jimmy Fortunes ($13.00) and Sharp Princess ($19.00).

The Parramatta Cup is an important one on the calendar with the best stayers giving themselves the chance to compete in the Sydney Metropolitan Series.
