With the market now open for tomorrow’s 2012 Lord Reims Cup at Morhphetville, the top four horses are proving almost impossible to separate signalling a potentially tight contest.
Local gelding Rialya is the current equal favourite with Robbie Laing trained six-year-old Rowland. Both are paying $4.40 on Luxbet.
Not too far away though are Enchanting Waters ($5.00), a mare with some good results on the board, and New Zealand horse Danahere ($5.50).
Rialya has benefited from trainer Lloyd Kennewell’s decision to cut short the four-year-old’s Melbourne sprint campaign, securing victory in the 2028 metre Holdfast Insurance Birthday Cup on February 18.
Enchanting Waters finished third in that same race and despite a step up in distance, tomorrow’s Group 3 event is definitely not beyond the seven-year-old that has six wins from 33 outings.
It will be interesting to see how the Michael Sell trained horse handles the 2600 metre race having never won over more than 2000 metres.
Equal favourite Rowland will have to over come a long lean spell to take victory in the traditional Adelaide Cup lead up having not recorded victory since June 2010.
Eight-year-old gelding Sophistication ($8.00) is one of the oldest in the field but should not be written off having placed in its last three starts.
Seven-year-old Stakhanovite is coming off victory in its last start in Morphetville’s Projections Graphics Handicap and provides some value for the punters at $11.00 on Luxbet.
Other horses included to run in tomorrow’s 2012 Lord Reims Stakes are He’s Hot to Trot ($14.00), Dumosa ($16.00) and Beautiful Soul ($19.00).
