Silver Slipper Stakes Odds 2012 – Pierro the Punters’ Pick

Gai Waterhouse’s unbeaten Lonhro colt Pierro will put their 2012 Golden Slipper credentials on the line at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday when they jump the punters’ pick in the $200,000 Group 2 Patinack Farm Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).

Nash Rawiller

Nash Rawiller has the ride on 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes favourite Pierro at Rosehill on Saturday

Pierro hasn’t raced since his narrow victory over Hidden Warrior in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 1 last year, but despite the length between runs all the money is on them to remain undefeated on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier seven of 11 with ace hoop Nash Rawiller engaged Pierro is the firm $2.80 favourite to win Rosehill Race 5 at 3:40pm in the 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes odds at Luxbet.

There have also been big money bets rolling in for Pierro to go all the way and hand Ms Waterhouse with her fourth victory in the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 7, the youngster now an $11 chance in the Golden Slipper Luxbet futures.

Following Pierro in the Silver Slipper betting markets for Saturday is then $4 second elect Hussousa.

Due to jump from barrier five with Hugh Bowman in the saddle, the John Thompson-trained and Patinack Farm-owned Husson filly Hussousa, like Pierro, won a stakes race on debut at Randwick on October 1.

She managed to put one and a half lengths on the talented Snipzu in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) then resumed a fortnight ago to run a close third, beaten just over half a length, by Waterhouse’s Magic Millions Classic winner Driefontein in the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Warwick Farm.

Three other two-year-olds are under $10 at Luxbet to upset Waterhouse’s hopeful with the Peter Snowden-trained Bernardini filly Meidung ($6.50) who won an 1100-metre race at Rosehill by three lengths on debut last year, John O’Shea’s More Than Ready colt Faustus ($8.50) who is another Rosehill winner on debut from the spring and Nediym’s Quest ($8.50).

General Nediym colt Nediym’s Quest may be unraced, but they have been the definite Silver Slipper Stakes betting market mover firming in from their opening price of $11 to their current quote of $8.50 at Luxbet following two successful trials in Sydney during February.

One of the longer-priced chances in the race that could have the potential for an early Slipper upset is the Gerald Ryan-trained Assassinate paying $11 through Luxbet.

A son of More Than Ready, Assassinate was an eye-catcher on debut on February 19 when putting two lengths on their rivals in a 1000-metre handicap at Wyong.

While it is a notable class rise for Saturday, and questions over the predicted Heavy Rosehill track are there, Ryan remains hopeful of another decent performance for Assassinate who has been smashed by the pre-post punters at Luxbet in from triple-figures to $19 to take out the Golden Slipper next month.

“He’s pretty professional now,” Ryan said.

“He made heaps of improvement from his trial to his race and I reckon he’s come on since.”
