Outstanding colt Helmet remains the clear favourite ahead of the $750,000 2012 Australian Guineas to be held at Flemington this Saturday, despite plenty of money now coming in for second favourite Mosheen.
There has been some movement at the top end of the markets with Helmet moving from $3.00 to $3.20 on Luxbet, which is perhaps a sign of cautious punters after the Peter Snowden trained horse produced a fifth-placed-effort in the CS Hayes Stakes two weeks ago.
The only filly in the race, Mosheen, is one that can challenge Helmet in the 1600 metre Group 1 event and this is the belief of the punters with the Robert Smerdon trained horse having been backed in from $6.50 to $5.50.
The quality of Mosheen is undeniable with the Crown Oaks Group 1 winner already racking up over $1.5 million in prize money. But she will have to overcome plenty of challenges in order to take out top spot this Saturday including the widest barrier draw of the field.
This is especially challenging when you consider that Helmet has drawn the plum barrier five position.
There has also been some movement for the next three shortest chances, with That’s the One moving in from $8.50 to $8.00 and Instinction pushing out from $8.00 to $8.50 on Luxbet.
Proliferate, who ran second in February’s Group 2 Hyland Colours Autumn Stakes, has moved to $9.50 (out from $9.00).
Of the value horses, Highly Recommended has blown out considerably from $14.00 to $18.00 while Bombalatomba has moved from $17.00 to $19.00.
