Hobartville Stakes 2012 Final Field & Barrier Draw

A full field of three-year-olds has been accepted to contest the 2012 Hobartville Stakes at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday, the line-up bursting with Group 1 performers.

Manawanui

Manawanui has drawn barrier 10 for their second-up run in the 2012 Hobartville Stakes this Saturday

Due to jump at 4:20pm (NSW time) on Saturday the $200,000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) has drawn a final field of 13 confirmed starters plus one emergency in #14 Falklands.

The highest-rated of the hopefuls is Ron Leemon’s Group 1 Golden Rose winner Manawanui.

Drawn in barrier 10, into nine if the emergency comes out, Manawanui resumed with a first-up second to Hot Snitzel in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm.

Getting back up to a more suitable 1400-metre distance, however, and back to Rosehill where they are undefeated brings Manawanui right back into the mix.

Manawanui’s last-start conqueror the Gerald Ryan-trained Hot Snitzel enjoyed an early boost to their chances of winning a second Group 2 on the trot after drawing ideally with gate four in the Hobartville Stakes barriers.

Hot Snitzel, a Group 1 runner-up at Eagle Farm last winter, overcame barrier 11 of 13 to score their Royal Sovereign upset.

The 1400-metres for Saturday also works perfectly in the Sntizel gelding’s favour as they scored an emphatic three length win in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes last June in their only other start over the distance to date.

Other top fancies in the Hobartville Stakes 2012 field suffered varying luck with the gates as did Peter Snowden’s quartet.

The best-backed of Snowden’s Hobartville Stakes hopes Victoria Derby runner-up Induna came up with barrier six with Jim Cassidy to ride while their also resuming stablemate Galah, last seen finishing third in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas, was the big winner in barrier one.

Snowden’s third runner Ambidexter is out slightly wider in nine and must improve hugely on their first-up eight in the Royal Sovereign, while Group 2 winner Free Wheeling drew the widest of the group with barrier 12.

WA raider King Saul having their second start in Sydney has a tough test form barrier 13 with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle of the WA Guineas winner, while last season’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes champ Doctor Doom may get caught in traffic with their midfield gate eight allocation.

One of the best drawn of the Hobartville Stakes horses this year is Peter Moody’s lightly-raced Moment Of Change in barrier two out to return to form after suffering their first career defeat to run third in the Royal Sovereign Stakes first-up.
