Roy Higgins Quality 2012 Nominations include Western Jewel

The 2012 Roy Higgins Quality nominations have been released for the $125,000 listed to take place at Flemington this Saturday March 3, 2012.

Run over 2600 metres the race will feature plenty of talent including Perth Cup winner Western Jewel.

Trained by Grant Williams, the mare has won over $600,000 in prize money and will be looking to improve on her eight wins from 26 starts this weekend in Melbourne.

The five-year-old also won the A.T.A handicap in the lead up to her Perth Cup victory last December.

Nominations for the Roy Higgins Quality have an international flavour with New Zealand‘s Fieldmaster as well as Irish horses Drunken Sailor and London Stripe included.

Fieldmaster has six wins from 21 races with the Patrick Payne trained gelding’s last victory coming in early February in Hobart’s Jockey Club Cup.

Drunken Sailor, who finished 12th in last year’s Melbourne Cup, last ran on February 12 where he placed second in the Mornington Cup.

The Michael Moroney trained gelding has had 11 victories and collected more than $800,000 in prize money.

Fellow Irish gelding London Stripe has two victories from eight starts.

Other horses nominated to run in the 2012 Roy Higgins Quality include Mr Riggs, Prussian Officer, Persian Star and Saddler’s Story.
