Parramatta Cup Nominations Have Chance To Prove Themselves

The 2012 Parramatta Cup is the feature event over a trip at Rosehill this Saturday with the Listed contest spanning 2000m.

It kicks off the autumn series of staying events around New South Wales and is a make or break contest for the 14 nominations.

This race is one of these events that separates the staying ranks into two different crops.

Hawk Island

Hawk Island showed in 2011 that he is an autumn specialist.

The top horses will remain in Sydney for the metropolitan series, potentially getting as far as The BMW or even the Sydney Cup.

The others will instead head around the state travelling to provincial and country cups meetings hovering around the Listed level or just below.

That’s not to say a horse can’t move between the two, Ironstein was a classic example after running just about every other week somewhere on the provincial cups circuit last year before ultimately only falling just short of a Melbourne Cup start.

Nevertheless these horses need to prove their worth for the autumn carnival and there’s some names in there which really should make the grade.

The likes of Kontiki Park, Macedonian, Praecido, Stand To Gain, Budai and Bid Spotter would all be recognised by the average weekend punter.

Hawk Island even ran in a Melbourne Cup and looked the winner of the Sydney Cup last year before falling on the turn for home.

It shows that there is some serious quality in the 2012 Parramatta Cup and in terms of a form race for later in the carnival it could be the most important of the entire weekend.

If you like races over a bit of ground then you simply must get involved in the Parramatta Cup this weekend.
