A Dozen Hopefuls Nominated For 2012 Silver Slipper Stakes

With the Blue Diamond Stakes now run and won attention is turned towards the Golden Slipper and important lead up races such as the Silver Slipper Stakes.

Nominations for the Silver Slipper Stakes are detailed below with 12 names on the list for the 1100m Group 2 event.

It’s fair to say the real headline two year olds don’t feature, names like Raceway, Samaready, No Looking Back and Driefontein having run last weekend or waiting until later in the carnival.

That being said the race isn’t without quality and the Golden Slipper winner may yet be among this group of 12.

Hussousa is one horse with big raps on him as is Mrs Gray which only just missed on a Blue Diamond start.

Others like Faustus and She’s A Fox also show plenty of promise and are being aimed at peaking for this period.

Winning the Silver Slipper Stakes not only gives the lion’s share of $200,000 to the winner, it also takes away one hurdle in the Golden Slipper, qualification.

This race carries a ballot exemption which guarantees the winner a start in the $3.5 contest, something that can be hugely valuable.
