2012 Australian Guineas Nominations Evening Out

The 2012 Australian Guineas Nominations feature a vast group of 31 horses all on track for one of Melbourne’s biggest Group 1 races of the autumn season.

The Australian Guineas has continually changed shape over the past weeks and months and it now looks like an intriguing mile contest has been set up for this Saturday at Flemington.

[australianguineasodds]In the early stages it was all about Helmet and a matter of when he won not if he won.

That assessment was thrown by the wayside last start though when a sluggish Helmet simply couldn’t match his opposition first up sending his Australian Guineas odds skyward.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy has taken some of the blame for that performance and vowed that a fitter, more aggressive Helmet will be on show in the Australian guineas.

Whether or not he’ll have made the improvements he needs to remains to be seen, especially given the strength of his opposition.

That’s The One was dominant in victory over Helmet last start but is still positioned at $7.00 in the Luxbet market.

Instinction also ran on well and is great value at $9.00.

Behind them are the likes of Proliferate at $10 and Decircles worth $11.

Of course the one we’ve skipped over to this point is Mosheen and she faces a similar turnaround to Helmet.

After having the run of the race as an odds on favourite first up Mosheen could only manage to run second over 1400m.

She’ll appreciate the jump to 1600m but is still a long way off the horse that won the Crown Oaks in 2011.

All the main players are listed on the right of screen with odds thanks to Luxbet.
