Ranger will once again attempt to find east coast success when he runs in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield racecourse this Saturday February 25, 2012.
The five-year-old gelding was amongst 13 horses to accept for the race when the final field and barrier draw was released today.
Ranger finished fifth in his first Melbourne assignment on February 11, when he contested the Group 3 Carlyon Cup at Caulfield.
Despite the result, trainer Grant Williams has decided to step ranger up in grade for the 2012 Peter Young Stakes, which was formerly known as the St George Stakes.
Majority owner Bob Peters is hopeful Ranger will prove himself up to the task in the race.
“We’ll know a bit more after this week,” Peters said.
“I don’t know what to expect. It’s a step up from last time.”
Ranger has drawn well in barrier five for the 2012 Peter Young Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Blake Shinn.
Southern Speed will also continue her autumn preparation in the 2012 Peter Young Stakes.
The four-year-old mare won her first-up start in the Listed John Dillon Stakes before finishing a gallant second to Black Caviar in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes last start.
Southern Speed has won five of her 15 race starts and has earned more than $2.1 million in prize money.
The Southern Image mare will jump from gate six in the 2012 Peter Young Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Craig Williams.
Efficient, Zavite, Mourayan, Glass Harmonium and Lucas Cranach are also included in the 2012 Peter Young Stakes final field and barrier draw.
