Sepoy is one of 21 horses to have nominated for a start in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday February 25, 2012.

The three-year-old colt will be first-up in the 2012 Oakleigh Plate, where he will attempt to get off to a good start this preparation ahead of his Dubai campaign.

Sepoy is one of 21 nominations for the 2012 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield Racecourse this weekend.

Howvere, trainer Peter Snowden is still deciding whether or not to run Sepoy in the race, fearing being the 58 kilograms top weight could hinder the Commands colt’s preparation.

”He may run but it all depends on the weights,” he said.

”I’ll discuss it with the boys, whether we want to go there or not.

”He is a colt with a great record and I do want to run the horse, but they tell me he is going to get 58 kilograms.

“He is a three-year-old; it is a savage ask.”

With Sepoy possibly absent from the 2012 Oakleigh Plate, Bel Sprinter is likely to be the short priced favourite to win the race.

Trainer Jason Warren is hopeful the half-brother to Black Caviar will be able to claim his first Group 1 race in the 2012 Oakleigh Plate.

“This is the race my horse has been set for, whereas Sepoy is being aimed at a feature race in Dubai over a month away. It’s got to be an advantage,” Warren said.

“It’s a good time to have a crack at Sepoy (if he runs).

“I’m looking forward to it. My horse is going to be at his peak while Sepoy might need a run or two, considering his main goal is in Dubai.”

Bel Sprinter has been allocated just 54 kilograms for the 2012 Oakleigh Plate.

Kulgrinda, First Command and Woorim are also included in the 2012 Oakleigh Plate nominations.
