Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 – Final Field & Barrier Draw

The final field and barrier draw has been released for the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes, which will take place at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday February 25, 2012.

Amongst the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes final field is Samaready, who blew her opposition away in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies on February 11.

The two-year-old filly has won both her previous race starts and has earned close to $120,000 in prize money.

Samaready has drawn barrier eight for the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse.

Samaready was purchased for $150,000 from the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2011 and is now trained at Caulfield by Mick Price.

The More Than Ready filly has been allocated the set weight of 54.5 kilograms for the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Samaready has emerged on top after the barrier draw was completed, drawing gate eight for the race.

The filly won her last start in the Blue Diamond Prelude from barrier nine, so barrier eight should give her no problems at all.

Jimando is also part of the 16 horse Blue Diamond Stakes final field.

The Commands colt won his first start in the Listed Inglis Debutants Stakes at Caulfield on October 12, 2011.

Jimando then finished a close third behind Mama’s Choice in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on February 4, 2012.

Trainer Tony McEvoy is confident Jimando will be in the mix for this Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes after producing an impressive performance during a track gallop last weekend.

”There were two things I really wanted to see out of the gallop and that was that he reacted well to the winkers, and that was certainly the case, and that he really quickened when asked and he certainly did that,” McEvoy said.

”He came through it all in great shape.”

McEvoy said he had learnt his lesson when attempting to ride Jimando for speed first-up in the Chairman’s Stakes.

”It wasn’t Blake’s (Shinn) fault because that was the plan we devised, but we learnt that he is a much better horse when ridden off the pace and that’s how he’ll be ridden on Saturday,” he said.

”Whether he draws inside or out (in the Blue Diamond Stakes), he’ll go back and be allowed to use that ability to quicken into the race.”

Despite McEvoy’s confidence, Jimando will have a lot of ground to cover in the early stages of the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes after drawing the outside barrier of 20 for the race.

Jimando will most likely jump from barrier 16 after the four emergencies are scratched.

Cambiaso, The Travelling Man, General Rippa, Formidable and Members Joy are also included in the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes final field.
