Black Caviar Vs. Frankel Clash Appears Unlikely

A long awaited clash between Frankel and Black Caviaris unlikely to happen when she travels to England later in the year.

Black Caviar

Black Caviar is not expected to meet Frankel when she heads to England this year.

Black Caviar is currently being aimed at the Golden Jubilee Stakes on June 23, 2012, before taking on the July Cup at Newmarket on July 14, 2012.

The superstar mare is also expected to be entered into the 1,600 metre Queen Anne Stakes on Tuesday June 19, 2012.

While she is unlikely to run in the race, it will be her only chance to come up against Frankel.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Frankel, said he doesn’t expect Frankel and Black Caviar to meet on their travels this racing season.

“Black Caviar is clearly exceptional, but I can’t speak for them regarding what race she will run in at Ascot,” Grimthorpe said.

“I did speak to (trainer) Peter Moody at Flemington but only briefly.

“If it happens, it happens, but it feels like we’ve got slightly different agendas.

“Sir Henry is looking at stretching Frankel this year.

“We hope to start off in the Lockinge and then we have two options at Royal Ascot. Either the Queen Anne or the Prince of Wales’s.”

Grimthorpe said he realises many people are hoping to see a clash between the two racing icons, but does not want to put Frankel’s preparation in jeopardy.

“I can understand there is tremendous goodwill out there for the two to get together,” he said.

“One is the best horse in the southern hemisphere and one is the best horse in the northern hemisphere – they are the two best horses in the world.

“But we don’t want to mess up our season for the sake of one race.

“It would be a great clash, but I’d be very surprised were it to happen.”
