Different Affair In 2012 Apollo Stakes Nominations

The 2012 Apollo Stakes Nominations feature a fantastic cross section of horses all at very different stages of their current preparations as well as their entire career.

While some are specialists over this trip with the Apollo Stakes a genuine winning target others will be looking further forward to races over more ground.

These types of races always throw up something special whether it be a favourite getting caught up in some slower traffic and being forced to work hard or even a horse written off as too dour producing a huge run to surprise everyone.

It’s exactly the type of race that caters for all types of punters and the 2012 Apollo Stakes will be a must watch as a form race for nearly every feature event from here on in.

To put it into perspective let’s highlight a few matchup’s to see just where these nominations stack up.

At the top of the list it’s Rain Affair, an absolute superstar from the Joe Pride camp that some believe could even challenge Black Caviar.

He’s unbeaten on his rise through the grades and he’s a certain favourite in this race.

The 1400m is perfect and he’s fit without being fatigued, he’s also one of the younger horses in the field with a huge future ahead of him.

Compare that with Zavite, an old stayer that’s probably in his final year as a racehorse.

He’s a fan favourite because of his never say die attitude, something that was perfectly highlighted during the autumn last year with his all the way effort as an $101 outsider.

In between these two extremes we’ve got plenty of other stories as well, Foreteller is a great type for Chris Waller and comes here with threes stablemates, Danleigh, Hawk Island and Shoot Out.

There’s the dual Group 1 champion Sniper’s Bullet, the trip is perfect but does the old boy still have enough zip to be competitive?

Rangirangdoo is on the way towards a Doncaster Mile defence and his trial form is great leading into this first up test.

Throw in the likes of Startsmeup and Trusting which both had solid spring campaigns and the 2012 Apollo Stakes could be very interesting indeed.

We’re expecting a few of these horse may drop out before final acceptances though so make sure you check back to see the final field later in the week.
