Driefontein has overcome a bad start to win the Listed Widden Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse today February 18, 2012.
Driefontein won the race by a head in front of Agueda, who finished second, and Hussousa, who stormed home down the outside for third.
The two-year-old filly consolidated her last start win in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast with a gutsy effort in today’s race.
Driefontein reared up in the barrier stalls and missed the start, forcing jockey Tommy Berryto sit in third position on the rails.

“She’s starting to get a little bit of a bad habit in the gates now,” Berry said.
“I just took the sit and she’s gutsy and she took up the run on the rail.
“She knows where the winning line is.”
Trainer Gai Waterhouse was thrilled with the result, which gave Driefontein a perfect record of four wins from four starts.
“That is a silly little habit she developed,” Waterhouse said of Driefontein’s barrier etiquette.
“She had every excuse to be beaten.”
The trainer will now aim her towards the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 7, 2012.
“She’s got the prize money now so we’ll just shoot the breeze and have a little look at where we place her now,” she said.
Star Thoroughbreds syndication owner Denise Martin was overjoyed with Driefontein’s gallant effort.
“She’s such a good filly, she dug deep,” Martin said.
“When she was a little slowly out of the barriers it made it a little difficult.
“(But) four out of four, you can’t do better than that.”
