Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Flemington Racecourse will be graced by the queen Black Caviar this Saturday as she looks to go back-to-back in the day’s feature race, the 2012 Lightning Stakes, but she isn’t the only short-priced favourite the Races.com.au tipsters are backing to win on the day.
A standout eight-race program for Lightning Stakes Day features a triple shot of Group racing, including the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival’s latest elite level – the $750,000 Group 1 Coolmore Lightning Stakes (1000m) at 4:10pm (VIC time).
This sixth at Flemington on Saturday is the one you’ll want to watch as the world’s highest-rated mare Black Caviar shoots for win No. 19 on the trot, which will see her equal the Australasian record jointly held by Gloaming and Desert Gold.
She will also become the first horse ever to back up from a win in the CF Orr Stakes over 1400-metres to score the Lighting Stakes sprint showdown, further entrenching her name in the record books and memories of a million fans.
Black Caviar is, for very obvious reasons, the odds-on favourite in the Lightning Stakes odds at Luxbet paying $1.12.
And she is also, for every obvious reasons, the Races.com.au Lighting Stakes tip to win.
She isn’t, however, the only favourite we think will salute for the Flemington punters on Saturday.
As is the betting story at Warwick Farm on the weekend where we are tipping no less than six of the punters’ picks in our Royal Sovereign Stakes Day Selections, in Melbourne we also think it will be hats off to the top elects.
Other short-priced fancies running on Lighting Stakes Day we think will be too classy to run down include:
Race 1 – 12:50pm – $100,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m)
- #6 All Too Hard – $3.50 @ Luxbet
He didn’t open the favourite, Peter Snowden’s Blue Diamond Stakes hopeful Forget did, but all the hype surrounding All Too Hard has seen them firm in from $3.90 to $3.50 to win their debut run
Why? He is a half-brother to the best – Black Caviar – and while on paper there are probably more appealing picks in this race, we are jumping on the Black Caviar bandwagon and believe he, like her full brother Moshe did as well, will also win their first.
Race 4 – 2:50pm $150,000 Group 3 The Vanity (1410m)
- #1 Mosheen – $1.65 @ Luxbet
A nine-length Crown Oaks winner who came back to beat a much better field like this over an unsuitable distance with ease a fortnight earlier? What other reason do you need to get behind Mosheen.
She is the definite market mover smashed in from $1.85 to $1.65 so get her now before she reaches Black Caviar’s price!
Race 5 – 3:30pm $150,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1410m)
- #1 Helmet – $1.70 @ Luxbet
The Caulfield Guineas winner resumes here from an ideal draw and yes there are some other class three-year-olds in this and yes Helmet may have bigger fish to fry later on – see 2012 Australian Guineas and Dubai – but he is still the best horse in the CS Hayes by a mile.
They may be short but they are so for a reason, so don’t deny the Flemington form guides and stats, get on the above Lightning Stakes Day favourites at Luxbet now and enjoy a big win this weekend!
