2012 Breeders Classic Betting Boom on Beaded

Beaded is hands-down one of the most consistent racehorses in Australia and on Saturday she will resume racing in the Breeders Classic 2012, a big betting boom on the ace mare seeing her start near odds-on territory.

Beaded continues to firm in her price to win the 2012 Breeders Classic first-up on Saturday

Making the first-up task of the smart Lonhro six-year-old easier is the early withdrawal of two of her Warwick Farm rivals, Gybe scratched on Thursday while Les Bridge’s Jersey Lily has come out today.

There are now 11 mares set to face off in the $175,000 Group 2 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic (1200m), Beaded easily the best-backed of the hopefuls having firmed in from $2.70 to $2.60 in the Luxbet markets.

Snowden kept Beaded out of the spring after she had a long but hugely successful winter in Brisbane that saw her finally win that elusive Group 1 in the Doomben 10,000.

She backed up with a second to Sincero in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) then was runner-up to Yosei in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June.

With a brilliant record that reads as 10 wins and 11 minor placings from 22 starts, it is easy to imagine Beaded heading to the breeding barn.

But Snowden said she was going so well that he felt another Group 1 win before retirement was not out of the question and that Beaded would continue to race, and hopefully race well, as long as she maintained her solid form.

“She’s really good,” Snowden said.

“She’s quite forward. She’s had two trials, that’s one more than I’d normally give her.

“She had the spring off after a long winter campaign.

“I’ve been really happy with her

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her as good and as bright in the coat as what she is at the moment which is a good sign.

“But no she’s definitely forward enough to run well Saturday

“That’s the reason we kept her working because her form was so solid

“Mares, they soon tell you when they’ve had enough.

“Her form is absolutely outstanding she’s never ever run a bad race I think she’s missed out on a place once out of 22 starts or something, that’s how consistent she is.

“So while her form is solid, she still shows to me she wants to be here and that’s why she’s here on Saturday.”

A tickle of money has also come in for Chris Waller’s Epsom Handicap third placegetter Red Tracer in gate 10 – $4 into $3.90 – but Beaded holds the Breeders Classic barrier advantage due to jump from four with Corey Brown in the saddle.

The only other single-figure chance in Saturday’s Breeders Classic, won 12 months ago by Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous, is the John O’Shea-trained Steps In Time.

Four-year-old Danehill Dancer mare Steps In Time resumed with a top win in a 1250-metre Canterbury handicap and the punters like her second-up with her Luxbet price coming in from $6 to $5 over the past day.

Randwick horseman O’Shea hopes that with a run under her belt Steps In Time just might hold the fitness edge over a field of first-up hopes, seven of her rivals all resuming in the Breeders, as may his other runner Alberton Park ($21 Luxbet) who took out a 1200m at Rosehill on January 21.

“They are coming into the race off confidence-boosting wins and that is always a positive sign with mares,” O’Shea said.

“Steps In Time had good improvement up her sleeve first-up and Alberton Park impressed me.

“If you had just looked at her trials and how she has been working at home you wouldn’t be surprised with how she won.”
