Chris Waller’s resuming four-year-old Red Tracer is installed as the second favourite behind the brilliant Beaded to take out the 2012 Breeders Classic first-up at Warwick Farm this weekend.

Due to jump at 3:50pm as Warwick Farm Race 5 on Saturday, the $175,000 Group 2 N.S.W. Thoroughbred Breeders Classic (1200m) field is down to 12 mares after the early withdrawal of #6 Gybe who was drawn in gate two.
Early Breeders Classic 2012 odds at our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet unsurprisingly favour Peter Snowden’s Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded.
The Lonhro mare is a superstar when it comes to strike rates finishing third or better in all but one of her 22 race starts do date.
She is no stranger to elite level company either having contested eight Group 1 races to date.
Going to race conditions for the first time since her narrow second to Yosei in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm in late June, the Lonhro six-year-old is the firm $2.70 favourite for Saturday through Luxbet.
After earlier retirement plans were shelved, Beaded is now set to get back to the business of racing but faces a tough test first-up against a smart field with Corey Brown (58kg) on her back.
While Beaded has drawn ideally in barrier five, now set to start from four, the close second favourite in the Breeders Classic betting markets is drawn at the other end of the field.
Red Tracer (12 into 11) is at $4 through Luxbet to score an upset and will have 56.5kg on her back with Hugh Bowman to ride as the daughter of Dane Shadow returns after a solid spring.
After running third behind ace mares Secret Admirer and Pinker Pinker in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick, Red Tracer was unable to overcome barrier 16 of 16 last start in the Emirates Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival finishing 14th.
She has trialled twice at the Farm since finishing second and first over 800-metres and looks ready for a big resuming run.
The only other single-figure chance at Luxbet is $5.50 third favourite Steps In Time, the John O’Shea-trained Danehill Dancer four-year-old coming off a first-up win at Canterbury over 1250m on January 28.
Another longer-priced hopeful that could prove a nice addition to Breeders Classic exotics at Luxbet is the Les Bridge-trained Jersey Lily.
The Catbird six-year-old, second to Aloha in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) last March, has seen some early support backed in from $18 to $16, but has some very big shoes to fill.
Bridge’s ill-fated star Hot Danish won the Breeders Classic back in 2009 smack in the middle of a stunning career that came to an end when the mare sadly lost her battle to an infection in April last year.
While Bridge is facing his first spring without Hot Danish in his stables, he has his fingers crossed Jersey Lily can return to her better form and race more competitively than her eight to More Joyous in the Breeders Classic 12 months ago.
“She’s no More Joyous or Hot Danish,” Bridge admitted.
“She still has to go to that next level, but the good thing is she handles all types of tracks.”
This will come in especially handy on Saturday with the currently Slow (7) rated Warwick Farm track expected to remain wet for the weekend’s racing.
“She’s come back terrific,” Bridge said.
“She trialled terrific for her.
“She’s never won first-up and that’s the fly in the ointment.
“I’d love to see her win but she usually needs a run or two. About third-up she seems to hit form.
“But she’ll run well on Saturday.”
