The Vanity 2012 Field Easy Pickings for Mosheen

Robert Smerdon’s exciting Crown Oaks winner Mosheen will face just seven rivals when she goes to the 2012 The Vanity at Flemington on Lightning Stakes Day this Saturday, the filly out to prove her Australian Guineas potential.

Mosheen is sure to start the short-priced favourite in Saturday's The Vanity 2012 at Flemington

After a blistering nine length victory in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington in November during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Fastnet Rock three-year-old Mosheen was sent to the paddock to prepare for the autumn.

She resumed in devastatingly style on February 4 easily accounting for her seven rivals in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

Saturday sees her face seven competitors once again as Mosheen races second-up in the $150,000 Group 3 The Vanity (1410m), the even to run as Flemington Race 4 at 2:50pm.

Mosheen’s main autumn aim is the $750,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) back at Flemington on March 3 and in the futures Australian Guineas odds at Luxbet she is the $7.50 second elect.

Australian Guineas betting is clearly led by Peter Snowden’s Dubai-bound colt Helmet at a short price of $2.60 through Luxbet.

Lightning Stakes Day could well prove the perfect Australian Guineas guide for Luxbet punters with Helmet to resume in the following race, the $150,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes over the same 1410-metre distance at 3:30pm.

While a number of other last-start winners are also engaged for the 2012 The Vanity on Saturday, none look in the same class as Mosheen.

The only thing working against the favourite is Mosheen’s wide barrier eight draw and her 57.5kg topweight.

The big winner in The Vanity barrier draw was the Danny O’Brien-trained Shopaholic who is set to get the inside running from gate one with Dwayne Dunn aboard.

Pins filly Shopaholic has raced eight times to date for a trio of wins, most recently at Caulfield over 1100-metres on February 4.

The other notable contenders include Greg Eurell’s consistent Great Dame out for her third win on the trot, Peter Snowden’s resuming Elusive quality filly Caline and the Andrew Noblet-trained Notice Received unbeaten in two opening career runs in January.
