Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Current favourite to take out the iconic 2012 Golden Slipper Stakes in April, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Raceway will look to secure his place at the top of the markets for the world’s richest two-year-olds’ race when he lines up in the Canonbury Stakes at Warwick Farm this Saturday.
One event after Waterhouse saddles up her Magic Millions winning filly Driefontein in the Widden Stakes, Raceway will take centre stage in Warwick Farm Race 3 – the $100,000 Listed Sharp Canonbury Stakes (1200m) at 2:30pm.
It looks easy pickings for the unbeaten son of More Than Ready, Raceway one of just two colts and geldings in the eight-horse 2012 Canonbury Stakes field with a previous race start to their name.
On debut the $150,000 yearling blew their competition out of the park when they flew home to win the Warwick Farm 100 Club Plate (1000m) by an impressive four lengths at Warwick Farm on January 7.
The return to the Farm this Saturday looking to go two-from-two to keep the dream alive for the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 7 when they jump from barrier five with Hugh Bowman aboard.
In the latest 2012 Golden Slipper odds at Luxbet, Raceway is the clear $6 favourite ahead of Mick Price’s unbeaten filly Samaready ($9).
The only other Canonbury Stakes hopeful not making their debut on Saturday is the Gary Portelli-trained Rise To The Top in barrier one.
From their three career starts to date the Shaft gelding’s best result was a second on debut at Rosehill in October.
Their resuming run at Canterbury on February 3 was hampered by a Heavy (8) track, Rise To The Top unable to come within 13 lengths of Waterhouse’s up-and-comer Later Gator.
Of the debutants set to race in the Canonbury on Saturday, the best of the bunch include the Peter Snowden-trained Exceed And Excel colt Narcissus, John O’Shea’s Redoute’s Choice two-year-old Shelford who has had two good trials and the well-bred General Nediym colt Nediym’s Quest from the local stables of David Pfieffer.
Now is the time to get behind Raceway in the futures Golden Slipper betting markets at Luxbet before them win on Saturday and shorten in their favouritism.
