Champion-in-the-making Mosheen will take her next step towards a run in the 2012 Australian Guineas when she races second-up in the $150,000 Group 3 The Vanity (1410m) at Flemington this Saturday.
Mosheen will look to stay unbeaten in 2012 with a win in The Vanity on Saturday
One of 11 three-year-old fillies nominated for the 2012 The Vanity, the Robert Smerdon-trained Mosheen is in flying form having won her first-up assignment in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 4 with ease.
It was a beautiful return from the daughter of Fastnet Rock whose most notable achievement to date was her commanding nine length success in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
She returns to the famous Flemington for the first time since on Saturday to face only a moderate field of rivals, Mosheen looking to win the same race that heralded the entrance of subsequent Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed 12 months ago.
Renowned Japanese breeder-owner Katsumi Yoshida recently purchased a half share in Mosheen and is keen to see his investment continue her winning ways this weekend in person.
“He’s as keen as mustard, he wants to be involved,” co-owner Phil Sly said after speaking to Yoshida.
“Let’s hope we can celebrate with a win.”
Mosheen is on way to the $750,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) back at Flemington on March 3 where she will likely face off against Peter Snowden’s champion colt Helmet in his Aussie swansong.
Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet currently dominates the futures Australian Guineas odds 2012 at a firm price of $2.60 through Luxbet.
Mosheen occupies the second line of Australian Guineas betting paying $7.50 at Luxbet.
Helmet also resumes racing this Saturday on Lightning Stakes Day at Flemington in the $150,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1410m).
Of the other The Vanity nominees this year the more notable contenders look to be the Danny O’Brien-trained Shopaholic coming off a win at Caulfield, Greg Eurell’s Danrich filly Great Dame out for her third win of the season, the Peter Snowden-trained Caline last seen winning by three lengths at Sandown in August and the unbeaten Notice Received.
The Flemington race action this Saturday will of course be headlined by the appearance of Black Caviar if Peter Moody decides to back her up in the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m).
