Helmet Heads 2012 CS Hayes Stakes Nominations

Peter Snowden’s overseas-bound champion Helmet will kick-off his swansong season in Australia this Saturday racing first-up in the CS Hayes Stakes 2012 at Flemington.

Oveseas-bound Helmet resumes in the 2012 CS Hayes Stakes this Saturday at Flemington

One of the major support races on a crack 2012 Lightning Stakes Day program, the $150,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1410m) has attracted a bumper list of 22 nominations with three-time elite level hero Helmet heading the entries.

Last seen finishing eighth as the beaten favourite in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), Helmet has been one of Snowden and Darley’s best colts and will run on Saturday before going into the $750,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3.

Helmet is already nearing odds-on territory in the ante-post 2012 Australian Guineas odds at Luxbet, their current price of $2.60 likely to be wound right in should they salute in their resuming run this weekend.

He will then to embark on an international career starting on Dubai World Cup night on March 31 racing under Snowden’s name for the final time before heading to Europe for new connections Godolphin.

The ace son of Exceed And Excel is sure to face some quality competition in the CS Hayes Stakes field this weekend, but they are also sure to start the short-priced favourite in the Luxbet markets.

Following Helmet the other most noteworthy CS Hayes Stakes entries this year include Victoria Derby third placegetter Sabrage, Caulfield Guineas third palcegetter Huegill, the Danny O’Brien-trained Decircles, last-start Manfred Stakes second (That’s The One) and third (Highly Recommended) placegetters.

The Flemington racing action will be highlighted by the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) where a title defense by the undefeated Black Caviar could be on the cards.
