Eagle Falls Posts Upset Win In 2012 Rubiton Stakes

Eagle Falls has had a brilliant start to his autumn campaign by winning the 2012 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield racecourse today.

The six-year-old gelding sprinted down the inside to win the race in front of First Command, who finished second, and Hot Spin, who ran home for third.

Race favourite Karuta Queen did well to finish in fourth after being upset in the gates by late scratching Here De Angels, who played up once again in the barriers.

2012 Rubiton Stakes winner Eagle Falls was paying healthy odds of $21 to win the race at Luxbet.

Trainer David Hayes told of how Eagle Falls has overcome a health problem that saw him struggle during the spring last year.

“He was sick last prep and we were playing catch up and this time we gave him a good spell,” Hayes said.

“He’s had a wind operation so when he got mucus on his through it was doubly bad.”

Eagle Falls will now head to the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate on February 25, 2012, at Caulfield racecourse, where he will avoid the mighty Black Caviar.

“(We’ll now head to) the Oakleigh plate and the great one is not going to take on that route,” Hayes said of Black Caviar.

Eagle falls has now won eight of his 28 race starts and earned close to $1 million in prize money.
