This Sunday the rescheduled 2012 Sunshine Coast Cup, a washout from last Friday night, has been added to the Sunshine Coast race program, the field of acceptors for the popular showdown released today.
Due to jump at 4:04pm (QLD time) as Race 9 on Sunday, the $100,000 Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) had attracted a final field of 16 stayers.
Topweight of the field with 59kg is the now Gillian Heinrich-trained Startsmeup, the Danzero four-year-old coming off an eye-catching second to Spirit Of Boom in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on January 14.
Saturday will be their first look at the Sunshine Coast track, but the distance looks ideal and they are Group placed in Sydney over the 1400m.
Four last-start winners are engaged in the Sunshine Coast Cup 2012 with:
- Troy Hall’s local Hussonet mare Hussonator coming off a win over 1200m at the track from January 8 in her first run since transferring from Darryl Hansen’s stables, Pat Hammersley retains the ride in gate two
- Vipera Gold, winner of a Doomben black-type last Saturday over 1200m on a Heavy (10) track, needs a soft track to be a danger again
- Piccolo mare Maroon Bells held on in a tight first-up win over 1200m at Eagle Farm on January 21
- John Thompson’s Sydney raider Onetimeatbandcamp, the Fastnet Rock five-year-old having run a very close second from a bad draw at the Sunshine Coast on January 1 before her last-start victory in the Magic Millions Country Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast
Other notable Sunshine Coast Cup hopefuls this year include the Rex Lipp-trained stakes winning Show A Heart mare Dual Chamber, 2012 Stradbroke Handicap-bound Ready To Rip, and the Pat Duff-trained duo of Steel Zip who was fourth in the Magic Millions Cup and Ausworld.
