Queen Adelaide Stakes 2012 Field & Barriers

This Saturday Morphettville Racecourse will be host to South Australia’s latest stakes race, the 2012 Queen Adelaide Stakes.

Scheudled to run as Race 2 at 1:30pm (SA time), the $80,000 Listed CAMMS Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) has attracted a final field of just eight two-year-olds.

The race will be the debut run for two gallopers with Caulfield Cup winning trainers Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas running Sheik Moh Hand, and the David Hayes-trained Encosta De Lago filly Spice Beauty also having her maiden start after two official trials to date.

Last year’s Queen Adelaide Stakes winner was Lee Freedman’s Exceed And Excel filly Chinchilla who had had four previous career starts leading up to the event.

This year Lee’s brother Anthony Freedman, who has taken over training duties at the stable, will be represented in the race by Armed For Action.

Drawn in barrier seven Armed For Action is also a daughter of Exceed And Excel, and is also the sole Queen Adelaide Stakes hopeful to have won a race.

She debuted at Mornington on January 13 and caught the eye when running away to win the 1005m sprint by an easy four lengths.

Other notable chances include the John Hickmott-trained Flying Skipper who ran second on debut at Murray Bridge on Australia Day and who has drawn ideally in gate two for Saturday, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Fastnet Rock filly Fast And Loose and local filly Miss Intensus out to improve on her first-up third at the track on January 21.
