2012 Chairman’s Stakes Field & Preview

A bumper eight-race program at Caulfield this Saturday will be host to four Listed features, the first of which is the Chairman’s Stakes 2012, registered this year as the Emirates Airline Stakes.

Kicking off the black type action as Caulfield Race 4 at 3:10pm (VIC time), the $100,000 Listed Emirates Airline Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) has drawn a final field of 11 two-year-olds, down from 24 at nomination stage earlier this week.

The headline youngster in the Chairman’s Stakes field on Saturday is Tony McEvoy’s Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Jimando.

One of 64 third acceptors for the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) this week, South Australian galloper Jimando is the current $6 favourite in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes odds at Luxbet.

They will get the chance to secure that favouritism and maintain their flawless race record in the Chairman’s Stakes.

Drawn ideally in barrier two, Jimando is the 58kg topweight of the field and will be ridden by Melbourne Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn for the first time.

Nash Rawiller rode the colt to their win on debut in the Listed Debutants Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield back on October 12 when Jimando put an easy three and a half lengths on their closest rival.

Five of the other Chairman’s hopefuls for Saturday have had a previous race start also, two that are in the same boat with a one win from one run record like Jimando.

Lonhro gelding Yocto, on the rails in gate one, narrowly took out their debut at Seymour over 1100m on January 19 while their stablemate, the fellow Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Formidable was a Flemington winner over 1000m first-up on January 14.

Along with Jimando three other 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes hopefuls will have their next start in the Chairman’s Handicap on the weekend with Pronto Pronto, Timely Truce and Mama’s Choice who pay $41, $81 and $301 respectively in the BD odds at Luxbet.

The Blue Diamond price on these youngsters will be dramatically slashed should they get the better of Jimando at Caulfield.

Snitzel colt Pronto Pronto has drawn barrier four and makes their race debut, as does the David Hayes-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Mama’s Choice out wider in gate nine.

Timely Truce, however, has had three career starts to date the most recent of which was a third to The Travelling Man in the Blue Diamond Preview (Colts & Geldings) over the 1000m at Caulfield on January 26.
