2012 Bow Mistress Trophy Final Field – Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival

The opening Group race of the Hobart Summer Carnival will be this Sunday’s Bow Mistress Trophy 2012, the fillies and mares’ showdown the feature race on a cracker 10-event Hobart card.

Lady Lynette

Smart Group winning mare Lady Lynette will defend her title in this Sunday's 2012 Bow Mistress Trophy at Hobart

Bringing the Sunday racing action to a close at 5:20pm (TAS time) as Hobart Race 10, the $150,000 Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) is a lucrative, female-only sprint that has drawn a final field of 11.

Last year’s Bow Mistress Trophy winner was David & Scott Brunton’s multiple Group winning and interstate performing mare Lady Lynette who won the race first-up off a three month spell from barrier three.

The Ladoni seven-year-old will defend her title on Sunday from barrier seven, Lady Lynette last seen running a credible fifth beaten under five lengths by Hurtle Myrtle in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Derby Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The Bruntons have also accepted for two of the defending champ’s stablemates with six-year-old Commands mare Faye Commands (barrier nine) and four-year-old Sorell Miss (barrier five).

Lady Lynette will face a quality field full of very strong rivals this time round, including Robbie Griffiths‘ Flying Spur mare Avionics, the Cranbourne visitor last seen winning a 1200m Caulfield race on Australia Stakes Day.

While Avionics will have work to do from her awkward barrier 10 of 11 draw, the other last-start winner engaged in the Bow Mistress Trophy field this year has come up trumps with gate three.

The Leon Wells-trained Telesto mare Rebel Bride has been the picture of perfection over her eight-start career to date, and will be ridden by Craig Newitt on Sunday.

The four-year-old has won six times, including her last four races consecutively since December 9.

Her recent turf triumphs include a massive seven length win in a Benchmark 78 over 1000m at Devonport on January 11 when drawn in barrier 10 of 10, and her last-start success at Hobart over Blue Light on January 22 when also drawn in the extreme outside barrier 11 of 11.

Tammy Mollross’s consistent Monashee Mountain mare Darmasanda came up with the ‘visitor’s draw’ in 11 for the Bow Mistress Trophy, while the John Thompson-trained Sydney visitor Off And Laughing will get the inside running from barrier one.

Meanwhile former gun two-year-old, the well-bred Lonhro mare Beau Vallon (barrier four) will debut for new trainer Troy Blacker in the Bow Mistress on Sunday.

After kicking her career off in Tasmanian under the training of Charlie Goggin, the now four-year-old raced in Victoria during 2011 under the preparation of Simon Zahra & Matthew Ellerton.

She has now been sent back to the Apple Isle with the Longford-based Blacker who is confident she will make a nice return in the Bow Mistress.

“It’s great to have a horse of her ability coming to the stable and I’m looking forward to preparing her while she’s racing here in Tasmania,” Blacker said of Beau Vallon who is set to arrive in Tasmania on Wednesday.
