2012 TheTote.Com.Au Stakes Field & Preview

The first black type of February will run at Launceston on Wednesday evening, an impressive field of sprinters engaged for the major Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival lead-up, TheTote.Com.Au Stakes 2012.

Dream Pedlar

Dream Pedlar is the top-rated horse in the 2012 TheTote.Com.Au Stakes field this Wednesday

Won 12 months ago by Peter Moody’s Victorian raider and subsequent Group 2 placegetter Doubtful Jack, this year’s edition of the $90,000 TheTote.Com.Au Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of 14.

The top-rated of the acceptors is Troy Blacker’s veteran seven-year-old Dream Pedlar who has suffered an early blow drawing awkwardly with barrier 11.

Last seen finishing a close third behind 2012 Hobart Cup-bound Geegees Blackflash in the Listed Kevin Sharkies Stakes (1600m) on December 27, the West Quest gelding looks unsuited to the 1200m of Wednesday’s clash.

Blacker will also be represented in the race by his Delago Brom mare Tranquil Lass who is also drawn unfavourably wide in barrier 12 with Paul Sarlo booked for the ride.

Tranquil Lass races in her first stakes assignment since the 2009 Gold Sovereign Stakes as a two-year-old and was a winner at the track two starts back over 1400m.

Just one last-start winner is engaged in this year’s TheTote.Com.Au Stakes field with the Royston Carr-trained Palzago in barrier three.

The Lago Delight six-year-old resumed from a lengthy six month spell on January 18 to win the Sky Racing Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m) at the track and looks well positioned to make it two from two this season.

Carr has also paid up for six-year-old Rave Night in Wednesday’s feature race, the galloper having come up with another nice gate (four) as they look to improve on their close last-start fourth to stablemate Palzago.

Other notable TheTote.Com.Au Stakes hopes include Ross Stitt’s Taree galloper Youthful Jack, sprint specialist Dash For Magic and the consistent Scott & David Brunton-trained four-year-old Getitdone.
