Win 17 For Black Caviar In 2012 Australia Stakes

Black Caviar has won the 2012 Australia Stakes in a result that surprises nobody but pleases everybody.

Black Caviar

Black Caviar will step up to 1400m next race after winning the 2012 Australia Stakes

It was a typical Moonee Valley performance from the world’s greatest sprinter and the ride couldn’t have been any better from Luke Nolen.

Black Caviar jumped from gate one in the 1200m assignment and she showed enough toe to stick with the first horses out of the gates.

From there Nolen snagged the perfect spot in third behind the two leaders  Zedi Knight and stablemate Doubtful Jack.

They set a decent tempo and Black Caviar was left by herself with an absolute dream run leaving punters in no doubt with 600m left to run.

As they approached the turn she was taken off the rails and even before they’d straightened she’d hit the lead with ease.

Doubtful Jack was the first to drop off and a game Zedi Knight simply couldn’t match it over the last 300m.

Nolen was barely made to work for his pay cheque as he let her home under her own steam for the easiest of first up wins.

“It probably wasn’t the strongest opposition she’s met, she relaxed nicely off a moderate speed,” Nolen said.

“I didn’t get complacent but just made sure she got the most out of this gallop today, we’ve got to go to 1400m next.”

As for whether she’s gone to a new level in 2012 Nolen wasn’t biting but there’s certainly more to come this prep.

“I’m not going to go and say she’s better than she was but she doesn’t have to improve,” he said.

“I felt off the back of today there’s improvement in her.”
