Australia Day Cup 2012 Nominations Released

What better way to celebrate the green and gold spirit than a good old fashioned horse race? And what better race to bet on next Thursday than the aptly named 2012 Australia Day Cup at Warwick Farm, nominations for which are now out.

The Australian Turf Club (ATC) took a relatively small number of entries for this year’s $100,000 Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) with 10 stayers making up the nominees.

Won last year by Kembla Grange galloper Lang, the Australia Day Cup is one of the iconic events on the Sydney Summer Racing calendar and provides Luxbet punters with the perfect betting opportunity.

The country’s leading trainers dominate the 2012 Australia Day Cup nominations, including Chris Waller who has dual entries in last-start Rosehill winner over 2400-metres Permit and Wazn.

Whipper five-year-old Wazn was last seen finishing a brave second behind the in-form Straight Albert in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) on January 12, the progressive stallion tipped to improve again over the 2400 metres.

Many of the Australia Day Cup nominees have come via the Gosford Gold Cup including third palcegetter Legsman, fourth placed King Lionheart from the stables of Gai Waterhouse, the Peter Snowden-trained Group 3 Summer Cup winner back on Boxing Day Yulalona (5th), David Payne’s consistent four-year-old Winning Glory (7th) and the Peter Moody-trained Zabeel mare Zoomania (9th).

The 2012 Australia Day Cup final field is set to be released on Monday and will be published right here at Races.com.au followed by our exclusive preview and tips.
