The first official preparatory race for two-year-olds heading towards the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 will run at Caulfield Racecourse next Thursday on Australia Day, with nominations for the two Blue Diamond Previews now out.
There are two $100,000 Listed 1000-metre Blue Diamond Previews to run on January 26, one for colts and geldings, and another for the fillies.
The Blue Diamond Preview (Colts & Geldings) this year attracted 13 early entries, six of which have had a previous career run.
Of the hopefuls it is the Danny O’Brien-trained More Than Ready colt Cambiaso who is the shortest-priced in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes odds at Luxbet ahead of the Group 1 clash at Caulfield on February 25.
Cambiaso pays $10 for the Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 having won the Listed Superracing Stakes (1000m) at Flemington in their promising and professional raced debut back on October 2.
Other genuine chances in the colts and geldings Blue Diamond Preview nominations and their prices in the markets for the Blue Diamond main event are:
- Repousser ($26 Luxbet) – Byron Cozamanis-trained Choisir gelding, enjoyed a win on debut at Moonee Valley over 1000 metres back on December 31 in a time of 59.28 seconds
- Timley Truce ($31 Luxbet) – Ricky Manud’s Brief Truce gelding has run twice in Melbourne to date but remains a maiden, were second to Maximus Moonard on debut in the Listed Written Tycoon Champion Sire Stakes (1000m) at Sandown in November before finishing fourth over 1100m at Caulfield last-start in December
- Andre Roo Hoo ($51 Luxbet) – Robbie Laing-trained Written Tycoon colt ran a solid second to Real Stolle in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on debut at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival before their close third in the Written Tycoon on November 12, lots of potential and lots of promise of improvement to come
The other BD Preview entries with race experience in their favour are John Thompson’s Sigmund coming off a fourth to Gai Waterhouse’s splurge yearling purchase De Shamekh at Rosehill last Saturday, and Mossman colt The Travelling Man who ran fourth to Jimando in the Listed Inglis Debutants Stakes (100m) in their October debut, both paying $101 in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes markets at Luxbet.
The Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) has drawn even more nominees than its male counterpart in 2012 with 20 up-and-comers entered, a full preview of which can be found on the Races.com.au News section.
