Inglis Classic 2012 Field & Barrier Draw

News - Autumn Racing - Betting - Race Previews - Summer Racing
18 January 2012

This Saturday the latest sales-restricted juvenile’s feature will take place at Rosehill with a field of promising two-year-olds engaged for the 2012 Inglis Classic.

Lamingtons and Diamond Earth

Diamond Earth (inside) will jump favourite in the 2012 Inglis Classic at Rosehill on Saturday shooting for her third win on the trot

Scheduled to run as Rosehill Race 3 at 2:30pm (NSW time) on Saturday, the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) has this year attracted a final field of 14 hopefuls.

The headline acceptor and sure-to-be favourite when Inglis Classic odds open at Luxbet is the Anthony Cummings-trained Diamond Earth.

Drawing only fairly in barrier nine for Saturday should have little effect on the Choisir filly’s dominance in the markets as she jumped from the same gate (in a nine-horse field) last start to post her second career win in the Inglis Nursery (1000m).

Before the Inglis Nursery, where she defeated Gai Waterhouse’s subsequent three-and-a-half Rosehill winner De Shamekh, Diamond Earth also won the Inglis-restricted Banner at Moonee Valley.

While there are some queries over the form lines of these Inglis races, there are no queries that Diamond Earth is the horse to beat in the classic on Saturday.

Two other Inglis Classic hopes have a previous turf triumph to their name with Risky Blonde and Classical Melody.

Risky Blonde has drawn unfavourably in barrier 11 for Saturday with Kerrin McEvoy engaged, the David Payne-trained Zizou filly having won at Gosford back in December before finishing fifth to 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Raceway ($4.40 Luxbet) at Warwick Farm on January 7.

Classical Melody has a nicer draw with gate five, Brett Thompson’s improving Librettist filly making her big city debut after winning over 1000 metres at Orange in a good time last start.

Other horses that come into the race with a previous start include the Matthew Dale-trained duo of Vavavic (barrier 13) and Single In Paris (barrier 14); and the Kevin Moses-trained stablemates Crusader King (barrier 12) and Sinoque (barrier 7).

Of the unraced youngsters lining up under race conditions for the first time in the Inglis Classic, the most promising looks to be Gai Waterhouse’s Snippetsboy who has drawn ideally for their debut in barrier three.

The Snippetson gelding has trialed twice heading into their debut, most recently winning a Randwick hitout over 858 metres on January 3 with Nash Rawiller aboard.

Snippetsboy is due to be ridden by Tommy Berry on Saturday, the jockey fresh off a protest win with 2012 Golden Slipper-bound Driefontein in the Magic Millions Classic.

Gregory Hickman’s Ad Valorem gelding Taxmeifyoucan is another nicely drawn debutant, Hugh Bowman booked for the mount from barrier two.

Taxmeifyoucan had their first official trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday finishing only a length away third to Cut Throat Jack over 800 metres.

Meanwhile, Gerald Ryan’s Charge Forward filly Cavalry Rose will have the rails run from gate one as she too debuts.

Glyn Schofield is booked for the ride and has been signing the youngster praises since being aboard for her four-length trial win at Rosehill over 900 metres on January 6.

“She trialled pretty well but I’d like to see her under race conditions,” Ryan said.

“At the moment she might only be fast.

“They can all trial good but they’ve got to go and put it together in a race.”
