Flemington Hosts Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 Hopefuls

This Saturday Flemington Racecourse will be host to the debut runs of three 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes hopefuls, another two juveniles still in the running for the $1 million Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival feature next month also set to race in the opening event at the meeting.

Scheduled to jump at 12:5pm (VIC time) as Flemington Race 1, the $70,000 Summer Heroes Raceday 1200 (1200m) has drawn a field of eight two-year-olds.

Of these eight, five are among the 165 second declarations for the Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), which will light up Caulfield Racecourse on February 25.

The most notable non-acceptor for the Summer Heroes was Danny O’Brien’s stakes winning colt Cambiaso, one of the early favourites in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets at Luxbet paying $10.

Blue Diamond entries making their first career appearance at Flemington this weekend are the John Thompson-trained Casino Prince colt Cracow, Peter Snowden’s Commands colt Realms and Zizou filly Galvez from the stables of Peter Moody.

David Hayes’ son of Henny Hughes Henia and the Rick Hore-Lacy-trained Glow Torch are also engaged for both the Summer Heroes on Saturday and the Blue Diamond Stakes 2012, the two youngsters out to claim their maiden victory having failed to do so in their earlier career runs.

Henia is the most experienced of the bunch having started three times to date for two third place finishes in December before their fifth to Gerald Ryan’s Magic Millions Classic runner Amorino in the Summer Super Saver Ticket Handicap (100m) at Rosehill on New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile the well-bred Glow Torch, a son of Stratum out of Danehill mare Sandy’s Glow, races for the second time after finishing fifth on debut behind Sweet Little Lies in the Thomas North Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on January 7.

Ante-post Blue Diamond Stakes odds for 2012 at the country’s leading online bookmaker Luxbet are led by Gai Waterhouse’s promising gelding Raceway ($4.40).

The only Flemington Summer Heroes Raceday runner under triple-figures for the Blue Diamond currently is Henia at $71.

Watching these early autumn juvenile features is often a great indication of horses to back for the Blue Diamond Stakes Trifecta at Luxbet.
