Having already won the Magic Millions Classic quinella with her exciting fillies Driefontein and No Looking Back, Gai Waterhouse is gearing up for an even bigger juvenile pay day as her spruik two-year-old gelding Raceway has been installed at the top of the pre-post Blue Diamond Stakes odds 2012.

Our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet released their futures markets on the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) this week, and of the 165 youngsters still in contention Raceway is the No. 1 pick.
Due to run at Caulfield on Saturday February 25, the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes is one of the premier juvenile races of the autumn, surpassed only by the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 7.
At second declaration stage it is Waterhouse’s More Than Ready gelding out of Flying Spur mare Claws, Raceway, that is favourite to win.
Raceway burst into Blue Diamond Stakes contention with an emphatic four length win on debut in the Warwick Farm 100 Club Plate (1000m) at Warwick Farm on January 7.
After Waterhouse’s Magic Millions Classic succes, the bookies are taking no chances with her crop of two-year-olds and Raceway is the Blue Diamond Stakes favourite paying $4.40 through Luxbet.
Waterhouse has seven horses still in Blue Diamond Stakes contention the next best fancied of which are Magic Millions Classic hard-luck story No Looking Back ($15), Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate winning Lonhro colt Pierro ($31) and unraced Hussonet filly The Broken Shore ($31) who won an 800m Warwick Farm trial by three and a half lengths on December 30.
Three other Blue Diamond Stakes second acceptors are at single-figures in the current betting with:
- Jimando ($6 Luxbet) – Tony McEvoy’s Commands colt who debuted with a smart three and a half length win in the Listed Inglis Debutants Staks (1000m) at Caulfield on October 12
- Meidung ($6 Luxbet) – Peter Snowden-trained Bernardini filly who took out her 1100m debut at Rosehill on October 22 by three lengths, best of Snowden’s chances to go back-to-back in the Blue Diamond following superstar Sepoy’s win last year
- Real Stolle ($9 Luxbet) – John Thompson’s Elusive Qulaity filly who ran fifth to Jimando on debut before taking out the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, best chance for Patinack to keep the Blue Diamond winnings in-house
Other top fancies include Listed Superracing Stakes winner Cambiaso ($10) from the Flemington stables of Danny O’Brien, Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner Hussousa ($13) also representing Patinack Farm and Thompson, and Snowden’s Listed Emirates Airline Plate winning filly from Melbourne Cup Day Applegate ($13).
The list of Blue Diamond Stakes candidates will be further cut on Tuesday January 31 with third declarations taken.
