Cavalry Rose Set to Bloom in 2012 Inglis Classic

News - Betting - Race Previews - Summer Racing
17 January 2012

Glyn Schofield is not running scared from Diamond Earth, quite the opposite in fact with the ace hoop looking forward to taking on the boom filly with the unraced Cavalry Rose in the Inglis 2YO Classic 2012 at Rosehill this Saturday.

Glyn Schofield

Glyn Schofield will partner unraced filly Cavalry Rose for their debut in the 2012 Inglis Classic

Last-start winner of the Inglis Nursery, Anthony Cummings’ talented Choisir filly Diamond Earth has already netted over five times her $60,000 purchase price and will look to add more bounty to her booty in the $250,000 Inglis 2YO Classic (1200m) this weekend.

Certain to start the Luxbet favourite with history, breeding and experience on her side, Diamond Earth may be the spruik Inglis Classic contender this year but she is not the only one with ability.

Schofield will ride the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalry Rose in the Inglis Classic as the promising daughter of Charge Forward makes her race debut.

Cavalry Rose showed a hint of her ability in a Rosehill barrier trial back on January 6 when she lined up against seven other two-year-old fillies and put an easy four lengths on them over 900 metres in 53.71.

The time was faster than the trial win by Chris Waller’s Fundido (53.57), also ridden by Schofield on the same day, Fundido having finished a disappointing 14th to protest winner Driefontein in the Magic Million Classic last Saturday.

“She trailed on the same day as Fundido and Catkins and I think this filly went just as good,” Schofield said.

“She ran good time and I can imagine she will take improvement out of it.

“I was quite taken by her effort.”

Other unraced youngsters among the 17 Inglis Classic nominations this year include Gai Waterhouse’s Snippetson gelding Snippetsboy and the Gregory Hickman-trained Taxmeifyoucan.

Snippetsboy has trilled twice before, most recently winning an 858 metre hitout at Randwick on January 3, while Ad Valorem gelding Taxmeifyoucan qualified for the Inglis Classic with an official trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning where they finished just a length away third over 800m.
