Gold Coast Race 5 Betting – Magic Millions Classic Tips 2012
- 1st: Sizzling – $3.70 Luxbet
Sizzling led the betting for a long time but after two defeats as the favourite punters have shied away. Forgive. He didn’t have the barriers then but he certainly had the sectionals and now with the right gate he can atone. To be ridden by Chris Munce, a former winner in the race, Sizzling has plenty in his favour, and now that he’s seen the 1200 metres he can produce the speed to win this.
- 2nd: Alezan Thunder – $16 Luxbet
Not the right filly you’re saying? Well there is plenty in the form lines to suggest she is, Mark Kavanagh’s up-and-comer adding nice value to the Magic Millions Classic Quinella. Has drawn a little wider than the favourites, but nothing that should trouble hoop Michael Rodd. If emergencies come out she gets gate seven, the barrier Karuta Queen won the race from 12 months ago. She won her last at Sandown, albeit only over 900 metres, but she easily led all the way to put a minimum four lengths on her rivals then. The form is an unknown, but we are willing to suggest it will stack up.
- 3rd: Driefontein – $3.10 Luxbet
It’s going to be a close one this year and not much in the finish is our guess, perhaps even a photo finish for top three? Plenty to explain Gai Waterhouse’s filly’s favouritisim in the markets, just don’t know if she can produce again. Is two from two and that doesn’t happen easily, especially the last at Group level. Gets a gun run from barrier three (into two likely), has Berry aboard who is keen to make it two straight in this race, and Waterhouse knows what it takes to win this. Still, looking at the sectional times Sizzling should be able to get the better of her this time.
- 4th: Hoss Amor – $18 Luxbet
History is against them for the win as they have only had the one career run, but they did win the Wyong 2YO Classic on debut and that says something. Drawn in 11, but comes in. Could go either way, lots for and against, just saw something in their last that caught the eye enough to suggest top four isn’t out of the question. By General Nediym who won this race in their two-year-old year so breeding is right.
