Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Rosehill-based horseman Gerald Ryan heads to the Gold Coast this Saturday hoping for a successful raid on the highly-anticipated 2012 Magic Millions Race Day, the trainer to be dually represented with the current third favourites for the meeting’s two headline events.
Ryan will line-up the promising Amorino in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), while their three-year-old stablemate Angel Of Mercy is due to start in the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
In the latest Luxbet markets for both of these Magic Millions races, odds for which are due to be updated with the Magic Millions Classic and Magic Millions Guineas fields are officially released later this morning, Ryan’s duo occupy the third line of betting.
Amorino trails Gai Waterhouse’s undefeated filly Driefontein and the speedy Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling in the Magic Millions Classic 2012 odds at Luxbet, while Angel Of Mercy sits third behind Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes winner Safusa and late entry Happy Hussy in the Magic Millions Guineas markets.
Of the two, it is Snitzel colt Amorino Ryan holds the highest hopes for.
A winner of both of their career starts to date, Amorino was last seen taking out the Summer Super Saver Ticket Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on December 31.
Adding more value to the form of that win was the solid time third placegetter Lady Colours went on to win her Gold Coast assignment by this Saturday gone.
Ryan is hoping Amorino can atone for the sensational defeat of their sire Snitzel in the 2005 Magic Millions Classic when they ran third to upset winner Bradbury’s Luck after starting the punters’ pick.
Eagerly awaiting the Magic Millions Classic barrier draw taking place tomorrow morning at the Surfers Paradise foreshore, Ryan believes the Magic Millions Classic markets are spot on this year and that the gate Amorino draws will go a long way in determining the chances they have of defeating the top two.
“I think they are the three best chances in the race,” Ryan said of Driefontein, Sizzling and Amorino.
“But the barrier draw will be very important.
“Sizzling has drawn wide at his past two starts and run second but if he draws a barrier then he is a definite chance.”
