She may only be 24th in the current order of entry, but Bruce Hill’s smart Gold Coast filly Lady Colours will get her chance to secure a spot in the 2012 Magic Millions Classic when she jumps the punters’ pick in the Gold Coast Race 1 tomorrow.

Due to run at 12:20pm (QLD time), the $50,000 Magic Millions Tickets Online Now QTIS 2YO Handicap (900m) features a field of 11 juveniles.
Seven of those 11 feature in the entries for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) running at the Gold Coast Saturday week.
Even with a win tomorrow the majority of the Magic Millions entries would still not have enough prize money to move high enough up the ballot to secure a spot in the 16-starter, five-emergency final field when acceptances for the Classic are taken on Monday.
Of the MM Tickets Handicap hopefuls the Tony McEvoy-trained Little Critter is the highest in the latest Magic Millions Classic order of entry.
He sits in 16th spot, and they will very likely make the Classic field with a win tomorrow.
It is a similar case for Red Dazzler filly Lady Colours who is on the cusp of a Magic Millions Classic 2012 start.
A number of horses higher than her in the ballot may not be accepted for, and if she wins the MM Tickets Handicap her Magic Millions qualified prize money will be boosted from $17,200 to $49,200.
This would see her rise to 11th on the order of entry, pushing Peter McKay’s dual stakes winning New Zealander Travino ($48,989), by 1997 Magic Millions Classic winner General Nediym, down into 12th.
Officially Lady Colours has $31,200 in earnings to her name, but that won in QTIS bonuses does not count towards a Magic Millions qualification.
Lady Colours will also be able to take out another $10,000 on top of the $32,000 first place with a win tomorrow in additional QTIS600 Bonuses.
After a narrow win on debut at Ipswich back in December where the Heavy (8) conditions seemed to suit, Lady Colours went on to finish a gallant fourth when beaten four lengths by Discreet in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm on December 17.
She was last seen coming within one and three quarter lengths of Gerald Ryan’s in-form Sydneysider Amorino, who is the $4.60 third favourite to take out the Magic Millions Classic through Luxbet, in the Summer Super Saver Ticket Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on New Year’s Eve.
Thoughts last Saturday were that if Lady Colours had not drawn the extreme outside barrier (13 of 13), she would have finished even closer to Amorino who had a gun run from the inside alley.
“It was a game effort considering the work she did early,” Hill said of Lady Colours’ testing Sydney start.
“I would have liked to have drawn alongside Amorino, I think she would have given him a real race, we had to work and he drew one.
“She travelled back to the (Gold) Coast on Sunday night and had picked up within a day.
“In fact looking at her you would think she had a walk around the block not a round trip to Sydney and a hard run.”
In the ante-post Magic Millions 2012 Classic odds Lady Colours is rated a $31 chance, while for tomorrow’s assignment she is the clear $3.30 favourite through Luxbet ahead of Little Critter ($5).
Should she go onto win the 2012 Magic Millions Classic, Lady Colours would be creating a plethora of firsts.
She would be the first Magic Millions Classic winner for her trainer Hill and her sire Red Dazzler.
Her pedigree, however, is not without Magic Millions success as her grand-dam Dancer’s Joy won the fillies-only 1990 edition, the open Magic Millions Classic won that year by St. Jude.
