This Saturday for the first time in 2012 punters get to enjoy Caulfield racing action, the premier Victorian course host to a crack eight-event program including the weekend’s only stakes race, the full card and betting tips for which can be found below.
Racing kicks off at Caulfield at 12:50pm (VIC time) with Race 1 – the $70,000 Thomas North Plate (1100m).
An eight-horse field of promising juveniles are engaged, only two of which have had a previous start including the Peter Snowden-trained Dispatch ($5.50 Luxbet) who won on debut at Sandown back in December.
Also in the opening at Caulfield is the Mick Price-trained duo Poepillar ($6 Luxbet) and Rococco ($13 Luxbet) out to try and emulate Price’s winner in the feature 12 months ago Holdontoyahorses.
The day’s headline event runs as Race 5 at 3:30pm (VIC time) with the $100,000 Listed Doveton Stakes (1200m) where defending champ First Command ($3.60 Luxbet) is second favourite behind smart South Australian galloper Stirling Grove ($3.30 Luxbet).
The action concludes with Race 8 at 5:3pm (VIC time) when a strong field of summer stayers including The Big Steel ($2.80F Luxbet) bring Caulfield’s inaugural meeting of the New Year to an end.
