Former sole favourite to take out the Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2012, Kelso Wood’s in-form colt Sizzling is feeling the heat of a challenge as their last-start conqueror Driefontein meets them at the top of the futures odds for the Gold Coast feature Saturday week.

Until yesterday Snitzel two-year-old Sizzling was the clear $3.60 Luxbet favourite in their futures markets for the $2 million Gold Coast MM 2YO Classic (1200m).
Over the past 24 hours, however, the bookies have reacted to a crushing amount of cash coming in for Gai Waterhouse’s undefeated Fastnet Rock filly Driefontein who has firmed in from $4 to equal $3.60 Magic Millions Classic betting favourite at Luxbet.
A three length winner on debut at Randwick over 1000 metres back on November 5, $75,000 Magic Millions Yearling purchase Driefontein maintained her flawless record when beating home Sizzling by one and a half lengths in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday.
While three-time Magic Millions Classic winning trainer Waterhouse is going into this year’s edition with 100 percent confidence in her filly, camp ‘Sizzling’ won’t be going down without a fight.

Although beaten by a fair margin in the BJ McLachlan, Sizzling raced from barrier 12 of 14 while Driefontein and jockey Tommy Berry, who rode last year’s Magic Millions Classic winner Karuta Queen to victory, had a gun run from an advantageous inside gate (4).
Ace hoop Chris Munce who was aboard Sizzling believes the colt has plenty enough ability to turn the tables on Driefontein come the MM Classic, as proved by their sensational sectionals.
Sizzling ran a blistering final 600 metres in the McLachlan and if they get the right gate when the 2012 Magic Millions Classic Barriers are released next Tuesday they come right back into it.
“I think with a good draw he would have won,” Munce said of Sizzling in the BJ McLachlan.
“He just was so far off them, it was impossible for him to catch the winner, but it will be a different story if he draws well at the (Gold) Coast.
“There’s not much between this pair and the barrier draw is going to be critical.”
Another person with plenty of respect for Sizzling is rival trainer, Sydney’s Gerald Ryan who prepares Magic Millions Classic second elect Amorino ($4.60 Luxbet).
“The barriers will play a big part and if Sizzling draws a barrier he will be hard to beat,” Ryan admitted.
“He has drawn badly at his last two.”
A fellow son of beaten 2005 Magic Millions favourite Snitzel who ran third to Bradbury’s Luck, Amorino is undefeated in their two career starts to date.
How the form of their Rosehill win last Saturday, however, stacks up to the form at Doomben is being questioned.
The Magic Millions 2YO Classic Field 2012 will be released on Monday January 9.
