Saturday week the Gold Coast Turf Club will host their biggest race day of the year with the BMW Magic Millions Racing Carnival, the feature race of which will be the 2012 Magic Millions Classic that drew three late entries on Tuesday.
The $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) is the richest race for juvenile Magic Millions graduates and will run as one of nine events on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day card on January 14.
Yesterday Racing Queensland took final entries for the clash, three two-year-olds added to the list of potential 2012 Magic Millions Classic starters.
Two of the trio are unraced with the Anthony Cummings-trained Delagos, a well-bred Encosta De Lago colt, and the Mick Mair-trained General Nediym gelding General Jackson.
The other late entry was Rex Lipp’s Charge A Fortune who won on debut at Ipswich on December 23.
Early Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds are already available at Australia’s leading online bookmaker Luxbet with three hopefuls at single-figures to win.
Current co-favourites are the Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling and Gai Waterhouse’s Driefontein both at a quote of $3.60 through Luxbet.
Snitzel colt Sizzling has raced three times to date, first coming on the scene with an emphatic six length win over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm on debut back in November.
From there they ran a close second to Noogoora Burr in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) before their most recent effort to finish one and a half lengths away second to Driefontein in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m), Sizzling hampered by a horror barrier 12 draw for the New Year’s Eve feature at Doomben.
Until yesterday, BJ McLachlan Stakes winner Driefontein occupied the second line of 2012 Magic Millions Classic betting, the undefeated Fastnet Rock filly paying $4 through Luxbet.
A recent surge of money for them in the early markets, however, has seen them firm into $3.60.
The other top elect to win this year’s Magic Millions Classic is Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel colt Amorino at $4.60, the undefeated youngster last seen running away to win an 1100 metre handicap at Rosehill on December 31.
Nominations are now out for all of the 2012 BMW Magic Millions Race Day support events with over 560 horses entered across the nine races.
Final fields for the 2YO Classic and the day’s other major feature, the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m), will be released next Monday January 9 while the remaining seven race fields will then be confirmed on Wednesday January 11.
