Tony Gollan’s gallant Toowoomba galloper Spirit Of Boom burst into 2012 Magic Millions Sprint contention on Monday running away to win the Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast.

It was a nice stakes win for the Sequalo four-year-old with the $100,000 Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) run at the same track as the iconic 2012 Magic Millions Race Day Saturday week, January 14.
Ridden Rick McMahon Spirit Of Boom ($7) enjoyed a promising form reversal after running ninth in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes on a Slow (7) Doomben track on December 24, putting one and three quarter lengths on Dual Chamber ($9) with Geared Up ($31) finishing third.
“He’s a four-year-old bull now and a bit of a thinker but he’s a very good horse when he’s on his game and he showed that today,” Gollan said.
Goldmarket favourite Adebisi was unable to return to their George Moore Stakes winning form when crossing over four lengths away ninth, the horse fading after sharing the lead in the early stages with subsequent fourth placed Listen Son.
Gollan was quick to name the $200,000 Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) as the next-up target for Spirit Of Boom, the horse no stranger to the Gold Coast Magic Millions Racing Carnival.
As a two-year-old they backed up from an emphatic seven length Magic Millions 2YO Prelude win to run a disappointing 14th when beaten 10 lengths by 2010 Magic Millions Classic winner Military Rose.
They returned to the Gold Coast last year for the Magic Millions Carnival this time contesting the 3YO Guineas, but were beaten into fifth by Torio’s Quest.
Now Gollan is hoping it will be third time lucky for Spirit Of Boom in the 2012 Magic Millions Sprint.
