Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The two top-rated entries have opened equal favourites to take out the 2011 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic this Thursday, Little Critter and Hidden Warrior leading the markets for the lucrative feature.
A nine-horse field of two-year-old Magic Millions graduates are set to line up in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m), running as Wyong Race 4 at 3:10pm (NSW time), after the early withdrawal of the Liam Birchley-trained Shamrock Slipper who was rated a $26 chance in the Luxbet markets.
Leading the Wyong Magic Millions Classic field and odds are then the Tony McEvoy-trained Little Critter and Paul Perry’s Hidden Warrior both at a quote of $3.80 through Luxbet.
Little Critter has the draw of them all in barrier two of nine for the sprint showdown, the Court Command colt out for their second win from three starts.
An impressive trial winner at Warwick Farm back on December 15, Little Critter has only ever raced at Morphettville but impressed jockey Glyn Schofield enough in their trial for the hoop to fight for the ride on Thursday.
Schofield is also engaged to ride the Luxbet favourite in the other feature race at Wyong on Thursday with the Chris Waller-trained Ingham Magic in the $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes (1200m).
Meanwhile Christian Reith will be on equal Magic Millions Wyong Classic favourite Hidden Warrior out wide in barrier nine.
Hidden Dragon gelding Hidden Warrior debuted on October 1 when finishing a devastatingly close second to Gai Waterhouse’s Pierro in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick and is expected to improve after a freshen-up and going up to the 1100 metres.
Three of the other horses in the 2011 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic field are under $10 in the Luxbet odds with:
- #5 Hoffenhorry ($5 Luxbet) – Nice barrier four draw for Gregory McFarlane’s unraced Haradasun colt who is due to be ridden by Chris Munce, eyes on them after an emphatic eight length barrier trial win at Rosehill over 900 metres on December 6
- #7 Dear Demi ($7 Luxbet) – Clarry Conners’ Dehere filly to get the inside run from barrier one, ran a credible fourth to Hussousa on debut in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) back on October 1, looking to live up to their $130,000 purchase price
- #3 Burning Sails ($7.50 Luxbet) – Gai Waterhouse-trained Fastnet Rock colt making their debut after a promising barrier trial win at Rosehill over 900 metres
Thursday’s feature serves as both a preparatory run for the horses and a betting guide for the punters heading towards the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 14.
In the futures 2012 Magic Millions Classic Gold Coast odds at Luxbet Hidden Warrior is the shortest-priced of the Wyong hopefuls at $26 followed by Hoffenhorry ($26), Little Critter ($26) and Burning Sails ($35).
