Hidden Warrior to Strike from Wide in Wyong Magic Millions Classic 2011

Newcastle trainer Paul Perry remains confident that his promising Magic Millions graduate Hidden Warrior can salute for the punters in the 2011 Magic Millions Wyong Classic this Thursday and firm in the markets for next month’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1400m) despite drawing wide for the feature.

Hidden Dragon gelding Hidden Warrior has retained their favouritism in the Luxbet markets for the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) even after drawing the extreme outside gate nine.

Originally attracting a final field of 10, nine two-year-olds remain in Wyong MM Classic contention after Liam Birchley withdrew his entry Shamrock Slipper.

In the latest Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic markets at Luxbet, Hidden Warrior leads the way at a quote of $3.80 with Tony McEvoy’s Little Critter hot on their heels paying $4.

The favourite may have barrier nine to contend from, while Little Critter will get a gun run from barrier two, but spirits are still high in camp Hidden Warrior who Perry says has the gate speed to find a nice position.

“The bad barrier is a drawback but this horse is blessed with early natural speed,” Perry said.

“That will hopefully enable him to overcome the wide draw.”

They race for the first time since their close second behind Gai Waterhouse’s Lonhro colt Pierro in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick back on October 1.

Freshened up after their eye-catching debut, Hidden Warrior showed they were ready to return fit and strong with a smart Newcastle barrier trial win over 800 metres on November 29.

“He has gone super since he has come back,” Perry said.

“He would have to go close at Wyong to get a start next month at the Gold Coast.”

Hidden Warrior is also the best fancied of the Wyong runners in the Luxbet futures for the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1400m) on January 14 paying $16, and should they go there they would also be Perry’s first major runner in Queensland.
