Sydney’s leading lady of racing Gai Waterhouse may have shelved Gold Coast Magic Millions plans with two of her ace colts, but the prolific trainer is confident that she still has plenty of talent in her contingent that includes Thursday’s Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic hopeful Burning Sails.

Undefeated colts Pierro and Pure Hustle were two of Waterhouse’s 16 early entries for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), the summer feature to run on the Gold Coast on January 14, but both have since been withdrawn from contention.
Winner of the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) on debut back on October 1 at Randwick, Lonhro colt Pierro was considered one of Waterhouse’s strongest Magic Millions Classic chances sitting at a quote of around $13 in the Luxbet markets.
Pure Hustle, also a winner on debut in Sydney, was paying $17 in Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds that are led by Kelly Schweida’s Calaway Gal Stakes winner Discreet and the Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling who are equal $4.20 favourites through Luxbet.
Of Waterhouse’s remaining Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic contenders Driefontein is the shortest-priced fancy occupying the third line of betting at a Luxbet quote of $5.50.
The Fastnet Rock filly blew her competition away by a minimum three lengths in her maiden career run at Randwick in the Woods Bagot Handicap (1000m) on November 5.
Driefontein is followed by unbeaten Redoute’s Choice filly No Looking Back ($8), unraced Charge Forward filly Urban Groove ($12), Kuchinskaya ($17) who ran a close second on debut at Rosehill on November 12, Snitzel filly Blazing Snitzel ($26) and Burning Sails ($31).
Fastnet Rock colt Burning Sails will get the chance to display their potential when they debut at Wyong in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m) on Thursday.
Drawn in barrier eight of nine with Nash Rawiller engaged, the youngster showed they were ready to run under race conditions after winning a barrier trial over 900 metres at Rosehill on December 6, Waterhouse confident in the $270,000 Magic Millions purchase’s ability.
“He’s a very, very good colt,” she said.
“He’s so beautifully balanced and his work this week has been sizzling.”
Burning Sails is rated a $7.50 chance in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds at Luxbet, Waterhouse quick to name equal $3.80 favourite Hidden Warrior, second to Pierro on debut in the Breeder’s Classic, as the horse to beat.
“The horse to beat at Wyong is Hidden Warrior because he has the race experience but in Burning Sails, I know I have an outstanding young horse,” she said
Rounding out Waterhouse’s Magic Millions 2012-bound gallopers are then Sherocksmyworld ($51), More Glory ($71), Never Dwell ($71), Spurtonic ($71) Sonopronta ($81), Tamariz ($81), Carry Forward ($101) and Volutina ($201).
Waterhouse also has a very strong hand in the other major 2012 BMW Magic Millions Race Day feature, with stablemates Niagara ($6 Luxbet) and Just The Tonic ($8 Luxbet) trailing only Combat Kitty in the markets for the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Classic (1400m).
