Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Neville Parnham’s CB Cox Stakes winner from last weekend, God Has Spoken has received a one kilogram weight penalty for the 2011 Perth Cup on New Year’s Eve.
The talented Blackfriars five-year-old is now set to carry a total of 54kg when they line up in the $400,000 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400m) on December 31 at Ascot, which is the same weight they had when finishing nine lengths away 12th to Guest Wing in the latest edition of the Perth Cup back on New Year’s Day.
The one kilo penalty is the same awarded to 2009 CB Cox Stakes – 2010 Perth Cup winner Lords Ransom.
Lords Ransom, however, actually carried 55.5kg in total to victory after the 2010 Perth Cup weights were raised 2kg after topweight Scenic Shot (60kg) withdrew from the race.
Weighted on 56kg for the upcoming Perth Cup, Lords Ransom is rated a $14 chance in the Luxbet all-in markets but is unlikely to accept according to owner Bob Peters.
After being penalised for their success in the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m), which was the entire’s first time in the winners’ stall since their Group 3 Strickland Stakes success at Belmont back in July, God Has Spoken will be giving away a fair amount of weight to some class rivals.
They drop five kilos from their CB Cox Stakes weight but could be forced to carry the 57kg minimum topweight if the Grant Williams-trained Ranger, who is on 58kg and occupies the third line of Perth Cup betting at a quote of $7 through Luxbet, doesn’t accept.
God Has Spoken pays $14 to win the Perth Cup in the futures markets now open at Luxbet.
Perth Cup odds at Luxbet are led by Kincaple at a quote of $4, the Mark Reed-trained Pentire six-year-old coming off a second in the Cox Stakes when.
Winner of the Kalgoorlie Cup over 2300 metres back in September, Kincaple drops from 59kg last start to 53kg for the Perth Cup.
The next best-fancied of the Perth Cup nominees is then Ranger’s in-form stablemate Tranquility at $5.50.
A five-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare, Tranquility is on the 52kg minimum for the Perth Cup which is an advantageous five kilo drop from the 57kg she had on her back when finishing four lengths away fourth to God Has Spoken in the Cox Stakes.
God Has Spoken is one of four horses now with a Perth Cup ballot exemption along with JRA Trophy winner New Spice ($41 Luxbet), the Trevor Andrews-trained JRA Trophy champion Veracious ($17 Luxbet) and Grant Williams’ WA St Leger winner from last weekend Moonlight Bay ($13 Luxbet) who are all on 52kg.
The 2011 Perth Cup final field will be released on Tuesday December 27.
Currently 43 horses are still officially vying for a spot in the field following the early withdrawal of Gum Nut Guru.
